East of Phi Phi, the Krabi coastline stacks up Railay Beach, the Hong Island lagoon and the classic four-island chain (Poda, Chicken, Tup, Phra Nang). It is a bigger day than Phi Phi and rewards boats with speed.
Koh Hong hides an emerald lagoon enclosed by cliffs; the four-island chain joins up on sandbars at low tide. Railay's towers are the postcard - a private boat strings them together in one long, rewarding line, with far fewer boats around you than on the Phi Phi loop.
How it usually runs: a long private day trip of 9-10 hours, from ฿24,900 for the whole boat, best on a fast boat - or an easy overnight on a sailing catamaran, anchored under the cliffs after the day boats leave.
The Krabi coast is spread out, and group four-island tours rush it: twenty minutes per beach, back by 15:00. On a private charter you do the route in the order that fits the tide - sandbar walks at Tup Island when the tide is low, Hong's lagoon when the light comes through the cliffs, Railay for a late lunch - and you stay as long as you like. On an overnight, you have the anchorages to yourself from late afternoon.
Every charter is private, so this is a starting point, not a fixed schedule - your captain adjusts it to the tide, the sea state and your pace.
